“Bible-ercise”
by Pastor @ St. Timothy ~ November 14th, 2008
It’s funny how the Spirit prods, pushes, nudges – not to mention how God works overall, constantly preparing one for the next step down the path God has laid out. I believe more and more everyday, that all of my life God has been preparing me to be in this place at this time. Now that is not to say that this is the end or the last place I am supposed to be – but it is the place where I am supposed to be right now.
What does all of that have to do with “Bible-ercise” you ask? This morning I had the opportunity to engage with one of our parishioners in an extended (2+ hours) conversation while we waited with her husband to go into single knee replacement surgery. During that conversation she mentioned the different local mall policies regarding allowing “walkers” in before the stores opened. She also mentioned that there are some senior groups that try to find places were they can exercise together.
Right at that moment I remembered the success Jerry Rosin had with his program of devotions and exercise – his program had a name, but since I can’t recall it I coined the name, “Bible-ercise.” At my last call I had high hopes of establishing such a program but could not reach critical mass. Here however, I see a number of different possibilities.
For one thing we have a great facility just waiting to be utilized to its fullest. Also, we have the potential for a number of different groups. Early morning before work, mid-late morning for some retirees, late afternoon after school is out, or even early evening for those who work late. And of course I could see variances of daily, M – F; three times a week, M-W-F; once a week… there are a plethora of possible combinations.
I will look forward to the Spirit developing this idea further.
